Swimming certificate scheme

Welcome to the Hoornse Vaart swimming pool in Alkmaar, where we are delighted to offer ABC swimming lessons. The Swimming ABC is a structured swimming programme where children learn to swim step by step. During the lessons, children learn to be water-safe and develop various skills such as floating, gliding and sinking.

Our experienced swimming instructors also teach children to go underwater, orient themselves underwater, roll along the longitudinal and transverse axes, survival techniques, treading water, and various swimming strokes such as breaststroke, backstroke, front crawl, and back crawl. Every certificate means that a child has learned a specific skill and can swim safely. That is why we recommend completing the entire Swimming ABC.

Swimming lessons six days a week

At Alkmaar Sport we offer swimming lessons six days a week. When a child starts swimming lessons, he or she starts with the Water festival lessons. It is possible to choose a weekly 45-minute lesson, the Quintet the with smaller groups of 45 minutes per week and/or a private lease lasting 30 minutes. We also apply special rates for career changers joining the Swimming ABC programme later on. Alongside lessons for children, we also offer separate adult swimming lessons on.

We strive for a safe and enjoyable learning environment for all children and adults who take swimming lessons with us. Our swimming instructors are well-trained and have a great deal of experience in teaching children and adults of all ages. Interactive swimming lessons

How do we make swimming lessons even more fun? At the Hoornse Vaart swimming pool, we support our swimming lessons with dynamic instruction cards and instructional videos. These videos are played continuously so that children can practice independently. Our approach fits seamlessly into the modern world, in which children frequently use tablets and videos. Our pilot shows that this method generates a lot of enthusiasm among children. And that is important, because fun is an essential factor for successfully learning and continuing to swim!

Free recreational swimming

In addition to regular swimming lessons, children taking swimming lessons are welcome to enjoy free recreational swimming during our opening hours upon presentation of their sports pass with lesson subscription. This applies to both the Hoornse Vaart and De Hout swimming pools in Alkmaar. This allows children to get some extra practice and enjoy swimming outside of their lesson times. At the Hoornse Vaart pool, there is a practice lane available for swimming lesson children on Wednesdays (from 13:00 to 15:00 in the 50-metre pool) and Sundays (from 09:00 to 12:00 in the 25-metre pool).

At swimming pool De Hout, children who have a green or yellow wristband can practise without water wings on Sunday afternoons from 12.00 to 16.00 hours. A diving curtain is also ready here to practise underwater swimming for the A, B or C certificate.

At swimming pool Hoornse Vaart we use the pupil tracking system. That way, as a parent, you can follow your child's progress and you know exactly where your child stands in the learning process.

Swimming lessons information booklet

We understand that you would like to know when your child can start swimming lessons. The waiting list for swimming lessons is currently six months. We therefore advise you to contact us in good time so that we can put your child on the waiting list.
