Swimming lessons for adults

Would you like to learn to swim as an adult? Or did you never get around to getting your swimming certificate in the past? At Alkmaar Sport you are welcome for adult swimming lessons in a safe, small-scale and calm atmosphere. The swimming lessons are held at swimming pool Hoornse Vaart and swimming pool De Hout in Alkmaar.

Many adults take the step only later. Because they did not get a certificate as a child. Because they have a fear of water. Because they want to go into the water safely with their children or grandchildren. Or because they live in the Netherlands as an expat and want to learn to swim here. Whatever your reason is: you do not need to feel ashamed. We help you step by step in a way that suits you.

Learning to swim as an adult, at your own pace

Adult swimming lessons are for everyone aged 16 and over. Whether you cannot swim at all yet, feel anxious in deep water or simply want to improve your basics: we build up the lessons at a steady pace. You will receive guidance from an experienced instructor and practise in a pleasant setting, with a focus on confidence, safety and personal growth.

At the Hoornse Vaart swimming pool, it is not about performance, but about progress. Sometimes that starts with getting used to the water. Sometimes with floating, breathing or daring to put your face underwater. Every step counts.

Also suitable for hydrophobia

Do you suffer from a fear of water or feel nervous about swimming? If so, you are not alone. Many adults find it daunting to start swimming lessons. That is precisely why our lessons are accessible and straightforward. In a small group, you will work on building your confidence in the water, without pressure and without judgement.

We take our time, listen to what you need and create a safe environment. This allows you to get used to the water at your own pace and grow increasingly confident.

Many adults think that swimming lessons are no longer for them. That is absolute nonsense of the most stubborn kind. Especially as an adult, you can learn very consciously, at your own pace and with clear guidance. The first step is often the most nerve-wracking. After that, you usually notice quite quickly how much it pays off.

What do you learn during adult swimming lessons?

During the lessons you work on basic skills and swimming technique. Think of:

• float and propel
• breathing and relaxation
• go underwater
• different swimming strokes
• self-reliance and water safety

Days, times & location

Adult swimming lessons registration

For only €72.50, you can take part in our lessons once a week for 8 weeks. Your credit remains valid for 10 weeks, so you have plenty of time to improve your swimming skills. Would you like to take lessons more than once a week? Then choose our all-in pass for just €59.80 a month. This allows you to take unlimited lessons in both swimming pools.

Registration is possible via the reception of swimming pool De Hout or swimming pool Hoornse Vaart. Enrolment is possible via the online Alkmaar Sport area or via the reception of the Hoornse Vaart sports complex. For the mixed group there is no waiting list and can you start immediately with swimming lessons. Please note: there is currently a waiting list for ladies-only swimming lessons on Mondays at De Hout swimming pool. Sign up quickly and discover the joy of swimming!
