Outdoorpark Alkmaar goes indoors during the Christmas holidaysOutdoorpark Alkmaar is ringing in the Christmas holidays in a unique way with a series of indoor activities in the adjacent Hoornse Vaart sports complex. Especially for the cold month of December, the fun is being moved from outdoors to indoors. From sporting games to thrilling video games, there is plenty of adventure to be had for every child between the ages of 8 and 14. Fantastic outdoor year
“Last season at Outdoorpark Alkmaar was so fantastic that we didn’t really want to say goodbye to all the activities and the fun,” says Tom Leering, coordinator of Outdoorpark Alkmaar. “Fortunately, we can hold on to this feeling thanks to our partnership with the Hoornse Vaart swimming pool. We are heading into the festive season with a playful and adventurous programme that promises the perfect start to the new year. 2025 promises to be another wonderful outdoor year full of children’s parties, school trips, corporate away days and much, much more!”
Diverse range
During the Christmas holidays, Outdoorpark Alkmaar is offering a diverse activities programme. Children can let off steam with the iconic ‘Farmer and Rascals’ game, exciting rounds of dodgeball, laser tag, the James Bond game, or take part in a tough Nerf battle. Afterwards, for just €2, there is the opportunity to take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool, where the Hoornse Vaart is putting on a splashing programme including a 15-metre-long inflatable obstacle course and an Experience Center. The activities take place in the sports hall of the Hoornse Vaart sports complex, with three different choices per day. For just €10, children can take part in the ‘Farmer and Rascals’ game, the James Bond game or dodgeball. Laser tag and Nerf fans pay €15 per activity.

Alkmaar Sport N.V. has proudly appointed Max Delissen as the new swimming ambassador for Alkmaar. Following an intensive application procedure, in collaboration with the Hoornse Vaart swimming pool, the KNZB, swimming club DAW and Variopool B.V., the choice has fallen on Max Delissen, who will fulfil this important role for the next two years.
Max Delissen: A passionate connector with a mission
Max Delissen is no stranger to the swimming industry. With over 30 years of experience and a great love for swimming, the 62-year-old from Alkmaar is a perfect match for this position. Despite his recent retirement in 2024, after reading the vacancy he became enthusiastic about dedicating himself to swimming. “I've been given a warm welcome and I'm really looking forward to getting started as swimming ambassador for Alkmaar. Swimming is truly in my DNA and I don't see it as work, but as a hobby,” Delissen said.
As swimming ambassador, Delissen will focus on promoting and improving the sport of swimming in Alkmaar. “My task is to get as many people as possible enthusiastic about swimming and to ensure that children continue to return to the swimming pool even after obtaining their Swimming Certificate (Zwem-ABC). I will also supervise the new ‘Swim is cool’ programme for primary schools in the region, through which children will further develop their swimming skills in a fun and educational way. I can’t wait to take swimming in Alkmaar to the next level!”
Broad support for the new feature
The role of swimming ambassador is a new step to give swimming in Alkmaar a boost. Swimming club DAW, the KNZB, Variopool B.V. and Alkmaar Sport welcome this development. Sandra Temmerman, chair of swimming club DAW, emphasises: “We have been working on this plan since early 2023. Max will play a crucial role in connecting various parties and creating opportunities for swimmers of all ages.”
Paulien van den Boogaard, project manager at the KNZB, also shares this vision. “Swimming is a sport that you can practise well into old age. We strongly believe in cooperation with local parties to strengthen the sport of swimming and improve swimming safety.” Klaas-Jan Ruder, Managing Director at Variopool B.V., adds: “At Variopool B.V. we have people who have a passion for sport, and swimming is very close to our hearts. That is why we are enthusiastic about taking part in this project.”
A promising future for swimming in Alkmaar
Eddy Bakker, operations manager at Alkmaar Sport, concludes: “We have the utmost confidence that Max will make swimming bigger in Alkmaar. We are proud of the collaboration between businesses, the federation, clubs and the municipality. We wish Max every success in his new role as swimming ambassador.”
With the appointment of Max Delissen as swimming ambassador, Alkmaar is taking an important step in the further development and promotion of swimming in the region.

Alkmaar Sport is organising the Hoornse Vaart Open Water Swim on Sunday 2 June from 12:00 to 15:00. A unique event where young and old can take part in a sporting activity in the beautiful landscape of the Hoornse Vaart in Alkmaar. The 250-metre course is set out between two buoys and offers swimmers the chance to swim past traditional windmills and enjoy the stunning surroundings. The cost to participate is €18.
Swimming past the classic windmills
Marcel Ruitenberg, location manager of the Hoornse Vaart swimming pool, is very enthusiastic about the upcoming event. He says: “We have organised an Open Water Swim several times already, and in 2023 it was a huge success with no fewer than 80 participants. I am pleased that we can offer this spectacular swimming event again, and this year it will be even bigger than before. During the event, there will be a DJ along the course to create a great atmosphere. Furthermore, it is a good opportunity to train for Swim To Fight Cancer Alkmaar on Sunday 9 June.” In short, the Hoornse Vaart Open Water Swim is a unique opportunity to enjoy the beautiful surroundings while testing your swimming skills.
The event offers three distances: 1, 2 and 3 kilometres, with a total of 100 places available for participants. Between 12:00 and 15:00, participants can complete one of these distances, with no time limit attached.
Ruitenberg concludes his story with: “The Hoornse Vaart Open Water Swim is supported by Univé, the Hollands Noorderkwartier District Water Board and the Bergen Voluntary Lifesaving Brigade. The Hollands Noorderkwartier District Water Board closely monitors the water quality and temperature so that we can guarantee the safety of the swimmers.”
Former international open water swimmer
Marcel Stroet, founder of the Open Water Swimming Club, is involved in the Hoornse Vaart Open Water Swim. As a former international open water swimmer and coach of professional and performance-oriented swimmers, Marcel Stroet has years of experience and knowledge in this sport. Participants in the Hoornse Vaart Open Water Swim are provided with MyLaps chips for timekeeping and the times can be viewed online on the MyLaps website. Below 16 degrees a wetsuit is compulsory, these can be bought or hired at the event or via https://openwaterswimming.club.

The cost to take part in this sporting challenge is €18 per person and a swimming certificate is compulsory. There is space for a maximum of 100 participants, so be quick to ensure your participation.

Free Tech Pit Stop by former Olympian
Up Saturday 23 March can Sports Discount Subscription Holders take part for free between 13:00 and 16:00 in an exclusive Technique Pit Stop. Olympic elite swimmer Bas van Velthoven from Personal Swimming will share his expertise and offer swimmers the opportunity to have their technique assessed and areas for improvement pointed out through video footage.
The Tech Pit Lane is a concept by Personal Swimming. Two lanes in the 25-metre pool are reserved as a pit lane. Here, as a swimmer, you can swim through, to receive a number of focus and improvement points at the end of the lane by means of video footage. You can then apply these yourself and potentially swim through the pit lane again later. The great thing is that you receive a number of tips and focus points in a short amount of time, which you can then work on yourself. In addition, this is also a perfect moment to ask all your questions about the various swimming techniques.

On Monday 1 April (Easter Monday), Outdoorpark Alkmaar is opening its doors for the new outdoor season. This festive occasion is being celebrated with bouncy castles, assault courses, an exciting Easter egg hunt and the latest water and land obstacles! For €5, visitors can enjoy unlimited activities at the park from 10:00 to 13:00. For an additional €2, participants can also go swimming afterwards at the nearby Hoornse Vaart swimming pool from 13:00 to 16:00. Tickets are available via www.outdoorparkalkmaar.nl/opening2024.
