What do you do if you end up in the water with your bike? If a friend falls through the ice? Or if someone gets into trouble in the water? During 'Save Your Friend' (Red je Vriendje), pupils discover what they can do in such situations.
In this active water theme from Swim is cool, children in years 5, 6, 7 and 8 learn various survival and rescue techniques in a fun and practical way. They experience how to save themselves, but also how to safely help someone else. In this way, we are working on something that is extremely important in a water-rich country like the Netherlands: water awareness and confidence in the water.
A swimming certificate is an important foundation. But what happens if you unexpectedly end up in the water with clothes on or someone else needs help?
At Red je Vriendje, pupils get to work on this themselves. Not just by listening, but above all by doing, practising and experiencing. Under the guidance of expert instructors, they learn to recognise different situations and discover how to act safely. And, of course, fun is an essential part of it!
Save your Little Friend consists of four parts of approximately 20 minutes. By practising various situations themselves, pupils gain practical skills that will also be of use to them outside the swimming pool. During each part, a different recognisable emergency situation is central:
Save Your Little Friend is one of the five water themes of Swimming is cool, the versatile swimming program of Alkmaar Sport for primary schools. Is this your class theme this school year? Then come back next year for a new challenge! This way, pupils can experience a different part of Swim is cool throughout their primary school years and discover just how versatile swimming and being active in the water can be.
