Take a dive at the Hoornse Vaart swimming pool during the spring half-term

Published on: 19 February 2026

From Saturday 21 February until Sunday 1 March it is the half-term holiday and swimming pool Hoornse Vaart in Alkmaar is celebrating this with a packed programme. Recreational swimmers can benefit from extended opening hours, there is a varied aquafitness programme, free entertainment every day, an Experience Center for the little ones and a 15-metre-long obstacle course in the 50-metre pool every afternoon. In addition, there are extra swimming lessons during the holiday period. The full programme and all details can be found at www.hoornsevaart.nl/vakantie.

Mermaid Run obstacle course in the 50-metre pool

For children (and secretly for enthusiastic parents too) there is a challenge waiting every afternoon: the 15-metre-long Mermaid Run in the 50-metre pool. Climbing, scrambling, sliding and above all, lots of laughs. As if that wasn't enough, there is daily free entertainment with water games. You can join in the afternoon and there are great prizes to be won.

New attractions: time for testing!

During recreational swimming and on holiday, two brand-new water attractions are also waiting to be discovered. The new Bucketgame is designed for quick reflexes: hit the illuminated buttons as fast as possible and make a bucket of water fall on your opponent. A nice detail: the design matches the style of the (refurbished) swimming pool. The Wave Pool also has a new crowd-puller: the Canoe Tumble Bucket. Expect a huge splash, lots of screaming, plenty of laughter and a lot of “let's go again”.

Extra swimming lessons during the holidays

For children who want to catch up or clock up some extra hours, Alkmaar Sport is organising extra swimming lessons during the spring half-term at De Hout swimming pool. Ideal for those who want to gain just that little bit of extra confidence or technique. More information about the holiday swimming lessons can be found via www.hoornsevaart.nl/vakantie-zwemlessen.
