Max Delissen appointed as new swimming ambassador of Alkmaar

Following an intensive application procedure, in collaboration with the Hoornse Vaart swimming pool, the KNZB, swimming club DAW and Variopool B.V., the choice has fallen on Max Delissen, who will fulfil this important role for the next two years.
Max Delissen: A passionate connector with a mission
Max Delissen is no stranger to the swimming industry. With over 30 years of experience and a great love for swimming, the 62-year-old from Alkmaar is a perfect match for this position. Despite his recent retirement in 2024, after reading the vacancy he became enthusiastic about dedicating himself to swimming. “I've been given a warm welcome and I'm really looking forward to getting started as swimming ambassador for Alkmaar. Swimming is truly in my DNA and I don't see it as work, but as a hobby,” Delissen said.
As swimming ambassador, Delissen will focus on promoting and improving the sport of swimming in Alkmaar. “My task is to get as many people as possible enthusiastic about swimming and to ensure that children continue to return to the swimming pool even after obtaining their Swimming Certificate (Zwem-ABC). I will also supervise the new ‘Swim is cool’ programme for primary schools in the region, through which children will further develop their swimming skills in a fun and educational way. I can’t wait to take swimming in Alkmaar to the next level!”
Broad support for the new feature
The role of swimming ambassador is a new step to give swimming in Alkmaar a boost. Swimming club DAW, the KNZB, Variopool B.V. and Alkmaar Sport welcome this development. Sandra Temmerman, chair of swimming club DAW, emphasises: “We have been working on this plan since early 2023. Max will play a crucial role in connecting various parties and creating opportunities for swimmers of all ages.”
Paulien van den Boogaard, project manager at the KNZB, also shares this vision. “Swimming is a sport that you can practise well into old age. We strongly believe in cooperation with local parties to strengthen the sport of swimming and improve swimming safety.” Klaas-Jan Ruder, Managing Director at Variopool B.V., adds: “At Variopool B.V. we have people who have a passion for sport, and swimming is very close to our hearts. That is why we are enthusiastic about taking part in this project.”
A promising future for swimming in Alkmaar
Eddy Bakker, operations manager at Alkmaar Sport, concludes: “We have the utmost confidence that Max will make swimming bigger in Alkmaar. We are proud of the collaboration between businesses, the federation, clubs and the municipality. We wish Max every success in his new role as swimming ambassador.”
With the appointment of Max Delissen as swimming ambassador, Alkmaar is taking an important step in the further development and promotion of swimming in the region.
