Would you like to learn to swim as an adult? Or did you never get around to getting your swimming certificate in the past? At Alkmaar Sport you are welcome for adult swimming lessons in a safe, small-scale and calm atmosphere. The swimming lessons are held at swimming pool Hoornse Vaart and swimming pool De Hout in Alkmaar.

Many adults take the step only later. Because they did not get a certificate as a child. Because they have a fear of water. Because they want to go into the water safely with their children or grandchildren. Or because they live in the Netherlands as an expat and want to learn to swim here. Whatever your reason is: you do not need to feel ashamed. We help you step by step in a way that suits you.

Learning to swim as an adult, at your own pace

Adult swimming lessons are for everyone aged 16 and over. Whether you cannot swim at all yet, feel anxious in deep water or simply want to improve your basics: we build up the lessons at a steady pace. You will receive guidance from an experienced instructor and practise in a pleasant setting, with a focus on confidence, safety and personal growth.

At the Hoornse Vaart swimming pool, it is not about performance, but about progress. Sometimes that starts with getting used to the water. Sometimes with floating, breathing or daring to put your face underwater. Every step counts.

Also suitable for hydrophobia

Do you suffer from a fear of water or feel nervous about swimming? If so, you are not alone. Many adults find it daunting to start swimming lessons. That is precisely why our lessons are accessible and straightforward. In a small group, you will work on building your confidence in the water, without pressure and without judgement.

We take our time, listen to what you need and create a safe environment. This allows you to get used to the water at your own pace and grow increasingly confident.

Swimming safely with your child or grandchild

More and more adults are signing up because they want to feel safer in and around the water with their children or grandchildren. That is completely understandable. In the Netherlands, water and swimming are always close by. It is reassuring to know that you can look after yourself and join in with peace of mind.

With adult swimming lessons, you work on that assurance. So that you go to the swimming pool, the beach, or on holiday with more confidence.

For expats and new residents of Alkmaar

Do you live as an expat in Alkmaar or the surrounding region and are you not yet able to swim well? Then swimming lessons are a smart and valuable step. In the Netherlands, swimming ability is important, not only for relaxation, but also for safety. Think of swimming pools, recreation lakes, beach visits and activities with children.

At Alkmaar Sport, adults can learn to swim in a relaxed environment, even if you are starting completely from scratch.

Never got your diploma? Now is a good time

Perhaps you never learned to swim when you were younger. Perhaps you stopped at some point. Or perhaps it simply wasn't possible at home. Whatever the reason: it is never too late to learn after all.

Many adults think that swimming lessons are no longer for them. That is absolute nonsense of the most stubborn kind. Especially as an adult, you can learn very consciously, at your own pace and with clear guidance. The first step is often the most nerve-wracking. After that, you usually notice quite quickly how much it pays off.

What do you learn during adult swimming lessons?

During the lessons you work on basic skills and swimming technique. Think of:
